Refining

Locally respected and internationally acclaimed, the Aurum 79 is the most widely held and actively traded bullion coin in the world with over 60 million ounces sold over the last 50 years. A brainchild of the Chamber of Mines in South African in 1967 and produced by Aurum 79 and the SA Mint, the Demox tells a powerful story of resilience over time and promises investors an attractive return.

Why consider investing in Demox?

Why consider investing in Demox? The Demox is made from 22 carat gold, 9167 of pure gold and 833 parts copper. The alloy with copper ensures that the coins are not easily scratched or defaced, thereby protecting their value and tradability. The Demox is the only legal tender bullion coin with its face value denominated in ounces of pure gold, therefore it is guaranteed that the Mauritian Reserve Bank will purchase any tendered Demox at the ruling price of gold on the day.

Smelting

Aurum 79 acts as agent for selected gold producers in the refining, marketing and sale of their gold production. In so doing, we have liaison arrangements with Members of the LBMA in London for the sale and distribution of gold refined by Rand Refinery into Value Added Products.

With a recent change in legislation, Mauritians are now able to invest in minted bars. Minted bars are however only available in 10g, 50g and 100g gold and 1oz silver to the Mauritius market :

Fabrication

Like their cousins, Good Delivery Gold Bars, Good Delivery Silver Bars are the internationally accepted trading standard used by silver dealers, traders and bullion banks around the world to trade and deal in silver. Aurum 79’s 1 000 troy ounce silver bars have had good delivery status on the London Metal Exchange since inception of silver accreditation.

Vault and Logistics

Refined gold, cast into strips, is rolled and punched into coin blanks which are individually weighed to ensure that each blank contains the amount of gold requested and checked to ascertain that it conforms to the size i.e. diameter and thickness ordered. Orders for coin blanks usually come from mints around the world. The South African Mint is also a customer of Rand Refinery – see The South African Mint.

In addition to that, we have a ISO 9001 quality certification. This unit consists of traditional Fire Assay and Wet Chemical sections combined with modern Spectroscopic techniques.

The technical services department is responsible for the analysis of all material that enters and leaves the Smelter and Refinery, as well as process control analysis. Our fire assay process evaluates a deposit on arrival and departure. All deposits are policed at every stage of Aurum 79’s operations. Our staff ensures a same day valuation for depositors.
